About
Bonita Springs Property is an independent journal about buying, owning, and maintaining residential property in Bonita Springs, Florida.
The pieces here are practical: how flood maps are read, why insurance companies ask for wind-mitigation reports, what a seawall actually does, when hurricane season really gets busy, and what it takes to shut a house down safely for the summer and open it again in the fall. Most articles end with links to an official source — FEMA, the National Hurricane Center, the city, the county, or Florida agencies — so you can go straight to the document that matters.
A few things the journal believes, stated plainly:
- Water is the main character in this part of Southwest Florida. Rain, storm surge, canal levels, humidity, drainage — most maintenance problems here trace back to it.
- The unglamorous paperwork often matters more than the visible projects. Inspection reports, permit records, and policy reviews are where owners save money and avoid surprises.
- Generic advice travels badly. Florida insurance rules, county evacuation maps, and city ordinances are all different enough that specifics matter, and this journal tries to name the actual rule.
Nothing is sold here. There is no newsletter, no comment form, and no ads. The journal links to government and university sources, to sibling articles, and nowhere else.
